| Terrain Park? …what the heck? |

When I was growing up, downhill snow skiing was much less common a sport than it is today. It was viewed by most of my friends as rather wild, somewhat extreme, and a bit crazy. Well, not today. Today, many young people consider skiing just ho hum. Take my 11 year old daughter for instance, she enjoys skiing, but lives for the moments she can ski the “terrain park”. “What the heck does that mean?” I inquired. “Really, mom, it’s a run with awesome jumps, and “rails” for snow boarders,” she informed me. “But you don’t snowboard…” I persisted. “Yea, but I can still do the jumps on my skies,” she replied. I had to see the terrain park for myself, so off we went down the Jack Kendrick run atWinter Park ski resort. Off to the side, about half way down the run is a special turn-out for the terrain park. Adventurous souls can really “catch some air” on the very large jumps, if they go fast enough. Even jumping just a few inches off the top of those steep hills can be thrilling. Well, I think the terrain park is rather wild, somewhat extreme and a bit crazy, but a totally trilling ride! Enjoy! |
